In the companion animal health field, we often find that people are dramatically affected by the loss of their dear pet, and are surprised by how deep their feelings of loss can be.
Many owners are influenced by family, friends or co-workers saying that “it’s just a dog,” and can feel guilty or uncomfortable in expressing their overwhelming sense of sadness and loneliness.
In children, the process can be every bit as difficult. For a young child, the loss of a pet may be the first death a child experiences, and it can be a confusing and frightening moment for youngsters.
